Gala

Thanks to everyone who helped at the gala event on Friday - we raised loads of money for the project here is the SMT with the president of the RAeS Lee Balthazor!

Innovation in Engineering

We presented the project at the recent Showcase of Engineering in Stonehouse.

Our plane was moved from our workshop at MRG across the road to the Sports Hall at Wycliffe College for the launch showcase on Monday. We kept the plane under cover in a marquee which was kindly loaned by a local primary school, and for which we were most grateful on account of the inclement weather. Throughout the day we had a band of volunteers who talked about the project to interested parties, including local dignatories and the press, and Anne was interviewed for BBC Points West.

Easter Build Progress

Hi,

Over the Easter holidays, many things have happened. For starters, the lower cowling exhaust exits cut and cowling were fitted. The throttle cable end was successfully secured and attached. The pitot static lines were fitted, the oil cooler was moved to allow air inlet unimpeded routing, the fuel tanks inspected internally for any debris, the carburetor inlet pipe was properly secured, the hydraulic pipe work was completed and the instrumental panel was labeled.

We should have an update on the engineering showcase which is taking place on the 23rd April.

Build Progress 26th March 2012

Hi again here’s the latest BAP update:

As of Monday 26th March the aileron and flaps (the flaps on the backs of the wings that control roll) were rigged to the right positions, so that they are level and work in conjunction with each other. There has also been further work on connecting the throttle to the engine and a problem with a pin has been resolved. We were told that the main attention for the next few weeks including the Easter Holidays will be on the work forward of the firewall including electrical work, engine work and work to complete the hydraulics.

That’s all for this week more soon.

New Build Site

Hi,

As you know, we have a new build site for the plane. It has kindly been given to us by MRG Systems. Although it is smaller than the the previous hangar, it is more than sufficient. An important note about the area however is the working going on the adjoining room. They are using UV light welding on some telephone poles, and you must not look at the light directly for a sustained period of time, as this will cause blind spots in your eyes and will stop you from building as well as many other things.

Despite there being few people available to come this week we did get quite a few things done. The brake tubes were being marked out, and the hole about to be cut. Other tubes were also tightened as they had not been fitted accordingly.

The heat changer was going to be fitted but could not be so, as the clamp that would keep it in the right place, had been attached with out the wire clamped accordingly. When attempting to correct this mistake, we soon found out that a hole had been made in the plastic casing it was attached to. This made it nearly impossible to fix. After extracting the filter, we found out that this problem would be a lot harder to solve, and consequently solving this problem is a working progress.

Could people who did not come last week please make sure that they come next time.

Thank you,
